Getting Started

Do I need an account to use SteadyFocus?

No. SteadyFocus works fully offline and without any account. Your habit data is stored locally on your device using a high-performance database. Sign-in with Google is optional and only needed for AI features (Pattern Scout and AI Coach) which require cloud functions.

How do I create my first habit?

Open the Timeline screen and tap the orange + button in the bottom right. Select "New Recurring Habit" from the menu. Fill in the name, category, goal type, schedule, and optionally a reminder time. Tap Save and it appears on your Timeline immediately. Alternatively, use Pattern Scout on the Discovery screen to get AI-generated habit suggestions tailored to your goals.

What's the difference between a Habit and a Task?

Habits are recurring — they appear on your Timeline every day (or on specified days). They're designed for building routines. Tasks are one-off items that appear once and are removed when completed. Tasks require Plus and are perfect for single actions like "Call the bank" or "Submit report". Tasks are accessed via the same + button on the Timeline.

How do I set up reminders?

When creating or editing a habit, scroll down to the Reminder section. Toggle the reminder on and set how many minutes before the scheduled time you want to be notified. You'll need to grant notification permissions when first prompted. You can manage all notification preferences in Library → Notifications.

Focus Timer

How do I start a focus session?

+

On the Timeline, habits that require a focus session show a play button icon. Tap it and you'll be taken to the Focus screen with the timer pre-loaded for that habit. Tap the large orange play button to start the countdown. You can also go to the Focus tab directly and tap any habit card in the dashboard area to select it.

Can I pause the timer?

Yes. Tap the pause button below the timer ring during a session. The countdown stops and the habit name remains displayed. Tap play again to resume exactly where you left off. Use the stop button to end a session early — you'll still see the completion sheet.

Why doesn't my habit have a play button?

+

Only habits set to "Duration" goal type require a focus session. Binary, Numerical, and Streak habits don't use the Focus Timer — they're marked complete directly on the Timeline with a tap. To make a habit require a focus session, edit the habit and change its goal type to Duration and set a duration in minutes.

AI Features

What are Scout Credits?

+

Scout Credits power Pattern Scout searches. Each search of the AI habit discovery tool uses one credit. Free users start with a small credit balance. Pro subscribers get 10 free searches per day. You can purchase booster credit packs (5 for $0.99, 10 for $1.79) as one-time purchases from the Library → Store screen.

Why isn't the AI Coach showing a briefing button?

The AI Coach requires a Pro subscription. If you're on Pro and don't see the briefing button, check: (1) You have an active internet connection, (2) You're signed into your Google account in the app, (3) Your weekly briefing window is open — briefings are available once per week and reset on Sundays. If the button shows "Briefing Used This Week", you've already generated one this week.

Is AI coaching medical or professional advice?

No. All AI coaching in SteadyFocus is strictly for habit guidance and productivity. It is not medical, clinical, psychological, financial, or any other form of professional advice. The AI suggests routines and habits — never specific prescriptions, dosages, financial instruments, or anything requiring a professional licence. Always consult qualified professionals for health and wellbeing decisions.

Pattern Scout returned empty results — what happened?

This can happen if: (1) You have no Scout Credits remaining, (2) Your internet connection dropped during the search, (3) The query touched a topic outside habit-building scope (medical, financial, etc.) — Scout returns an empty set and an explanation in these cases. Try a different search query focused on a behaviour or routine rather than a specific outcome.

Insights

Insights is locked — how do I unlock it?

Insights requires a Plus or Pro subscription. From the locked Insights screen, tap "Upgrade to Plus" to open the in-app purchase screen. Plus is a one-time $9.99 purchase that unlocks Insights permanently along with unlimited habits, one-off tasks, and data backup.

Why does the heatmap look empty?

The heatmap shows the last 35 days. If you've only recently started using the app, most cells will be empty or very faint. Keep using the app consistently and the heatmap will fill in over time. Cells light up based on habits + tasks completed + focus session time — so the more you complete, the more intense the orange becomes.

Account & Data

How do I back up my data?

Data backup requires Plus or Pro. Go to Library → Data Backup. You can export your habit history as a CSV file to save locally or share, or trigger a backup to your connected Google account. Restore works the same way — import a previously exported file to recover your history.

What happens to my data if I uninstall the app?

Uninstalling will delete your local habit data. We strongly recommend using the backup feature (Plus/Pro) before uninstalling if you want to preserve your history. Reinstalling the app and restoring from a backup will recover your habits and history.

How do I restore my Plus/Pro purchase on a new device?

Go to Library → Store and scroll to the bottom. Tap "Already upgraded? Restore purchases". Make sure you're signed in with the same Google Play account you used for the original purchase. The restore process takes a few seconds and your tier will update automatically.

How do I delete my account and data?

+

For local data: uninstall the app. For any cloud data associated with your Google account: go to Library → Account and use the Delete Account option, or email us at support@oriventstudios.com and we will delete all associated data within 30 days. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
